Country and rock are America's favorite music genres, they are followed by popular music, classical, R&B or soul, hip hop or rap and jazz. Ukrainians like pop music the most, rock and folk music is also popular but not so much.
Among the first impressions for all the visitors who come to Ukraine is its national food. Ukrainian cuisine is diverse and unique. There are a lot of tasty dishes in Ukrainian cuisine but the most famous one is perhaps the borshch. Next on the list is the vinegret salad. Breads and wheat products are also important for Ukrainians. For the main course Ukrainian guests especially like vareniki or pies. They are small pastries or dumplings, which can be stuffed with mashed potatoes, cheese, cherries or strawberries. Of course, everyone knows about Ukrainian salo. Nobody leaves Ukraine not having tried one.
Very often traditional American food is associated with fast food, including hamburgers, French fries, hot dogs, pizzas and some other quick and easy-made dishes. Another American tradition involves salad bars. Many restaurants offer them to their visitors. The main rule of salad bars is to pay one price and eat as much as you want. During the day Americans eat lots of ready-to-cook food. But Ukrainians prefer to cook and eat at home.
Another striking contrast: clothing. In America girls wear yoga pants, or even pajamas, and flip-flops year round, no matter where they go, even to a coffee shop or their classes. In Ukraine things are different. At least 70% of Ukrainian women wear heels on a regular basis. What is considered to be dressed up in America is pretty much casual in Ukraine.
It’s hard to understand another culture, they call it “cultural shock”, but I think that people should travel more to see another way to live.
