Language type is not concrete language or group of languages, but it is an ideal system representing dominant features characteristic of a number of languages. As far as European languages are concerned, two language types are distinguished:
- synthetic are defined as languages of internal grammar of the word. The majority of grammatical relations and categories are expressed with the help of inflexion( Ukrainian).
- analytical are defined as languages of the word. In this type of language forms don't change. Grammatical functions are shown by word order, the use of functional words and prepositions( English).
The main analytical means of English are:
- fixed word order
- most verb forms
- phrasal verbs
- conversion
- functional words
