Hamlet as well as Horatio studied at The university of Wittenberg, which is located in north-central Germany, on the Elbe River, southwest of Berlin. This university was founded by Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony in 1502 and became famous by its professors, the religious reformers Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. It became a centre of the Protestant Reformation, even incorporating, at one point in time, Luther's house in Wittenberg.
